This 14-foot-wide residence in Toronto was renovated by the local construction firm StudioAC. The combination of white walls and solid-colored wooden elements enhances storage space throughout the home.

Known as Burton House, this three-story Victorian-era residence is situated in Toronto’s Annex neighborhood.

Like many homes in the area, this house is remarkably narrow—just 14 feet (4.2 meters) wide, roughly half the length of a London bus.

StudioAC focused the renovation on the first-floor living room and second-floor bedroom, emphasizing the tall ceilings to create an airy, spacious interior.

The walls and ceilings were painted white, while low wooden cabinets—referred to as “modern wall panels”—were installed to accentuate the room height.

“As the ceiling height visually soars, we aimed to connect the interior warmly while preserving an open, slender floor plan,” explained StudioAC.

“We used materials from the flooring up to the height of the low cabinets to create a cozy, nest-like feel in the bedroom suites on the first and third floors.”

In contrast, cabinetry is also cleverly used to conceal storage and functional areas, maximizing open floor space.

One continuous set of cabinets spans the length of the floor, serving as the base for the built-in fireplace and kitchen countertop, with the chimney and stove painted white above.

The space’s décor, including wooden flooring, furniture, and mirrored walls, reflects a minimalist aesthetic. A white sofa sits beneath a large window, complemented by a semi-transparent white screen.

The matching wooden cabinets extend into the master bedroom on the top floor, wrapping around the bed to form low storage units and wardrobes.

“The master suite on the third floor also benefits from impressive ceiling height,” the studio noted. “The modern wall panel design language continues here, bridging the private and public aspects of the space.”

Wood elements also extend into the master bathroom, where the walls and herringbone ceiling feature gray concrete finishes.

“The wooden veneer wraps around the bed and closets, guiding the view toward the bathroom—a private retreat clad in concrete panels beneath a soaring sloped roof ceiling,” the studio added.
