The client desired a refined vacation home to enjoy peaceful weekends with family and friends. To realize this vision, they promptly acquired a plot of land on the city’s outskirts. Conveniently, this property is easily accessible from the rooftop apartment recently designed for the client. This project embraces natural elements such as vegetation and the surrounding land. The client was also enthusiastic about involving local artisans and using indigenous materials throughout the design.

The site shares a composite wall with a regional railway line connecting Vadodara and Dabhoi, which now extends up to the Unity statue. Located in the hot, dry climate of Gujarat, the design strategically shields glass and vertical surfaces from direct sunlight while allowing natural ventilation through the property. Using local and natural materials ensures reliable performance of installed equipment, while the design integrates local art and craftsmanship to create a harmonious expression of place.

In the Indian subcontinent, seasonal changes and weather variations are prominent, influencing architectural design. Connecting indoor and outdoor spaces through courtyards or balconies as integral living areas is essential. This project incorporates traditional building techniques with a modern approach, using load-bearing walls oriented in one direction (x-axis) combined with ground beams along the perpendicular axis (y-axis). This method significantly reduces material use, costs, and construction time.

The design features a multi-layered roof without concrete structure, enhancing insulation while reducing overall costs, resource use, and structural load throughout the seasons. Vegetation is thoughtfully incorporated not only for visual appeal but also to engage the senses of sound, touch, taste, and smell. Through sustainable green design principles, this project fulfills the client’s long-held dream, creating a lasting memory.
