The One Thousand Museum luxury apartment tower rises 62 floors, overlooking Miami’s most popular Museum Park. Spanning 30 acres, this park offers some of the best views of Biscayne Bay. After its 2013 reopening with a new art and technology museum, it has become one of downtown Miami’s key public spaces.

This tower continues Zaha Hadid Architects’ exploration of high-rise structures, introducing a pioneering fluid form that complements its height. The external streamlined mesh acts as the concrete structural skeleton of the building, seamlessly integrating the surrounding framework with the main structure.

The building employs a consistent structural system from bottom to top. At the base, columns rise in a fan-shaped formation, creating a rigid “pipe” capable of withstanding the wind loads that tall buildings face. The diagonal curves of the structure help protect against hurricane damage.

“The design highlights the fluidity between structure and architecture, transforming traditional structural concepts to create a stronger continuity between design and project realization.” – Chris Lepine, Design Director at Zaha Hadid Architects

The “Thousand Hall” facade is composed entirely of glass fiber reinforced concrete modules. These permanent concrete modules require minimal maintenance and hang on the streamlined exoskeleton, creating a multi-faceted, crystalline appearance that contrasts with the building’s robust structure.

The tower’s external structure serves as the main load-bearing system, with virtually no internal columns. The curvature of the exoskeleton subtly varies on each floor plan. Lower floors feature balconies tucked deep into corners, while higher floors have balconies positioned behind the structural frame.

The top floor houses the water sports center, lounge, and activity spaces, while the garden, terrace, and swimming pool are located above the lobby and parking levels.
