Thewaywebuild, an Amsterdam-based architectural studio, has designed a movable “forest hut” nestled in the Robbenoordbos forest in the northern Netherlands. This cabin is part of the “het bos roept” campsite and serves as a tranquil living and meditation retreat immersed in nature.

The cabin features a distinctive wooden arched frame with an exposed structure, creating a dome-like interior that evokes the serene ambiance of a small chapel. The design team emphasized that this concept was driven by the desire to offer a retreat from the constant influx of media, emails, and phone calls. They stated, “The forest cabin allows guests to escape the bombardment of digital distractions, helping them to relieve stress and rejuvenate both physically and mentally in a peaceful environment.”

The “Forest Hut” is designed with a minimal footprint, offering guests a space to embrace the quiet and beauty of the forest. It serves as a sanctuary for meditation, writing, painting, and other creative pursuits using natural materials. The design team from Amsterdam explained, “This space encourages people to disconnect from the outside world’s distractions and reconnect with their inner selves amid the pristine wilderness.”

Constructed from sustainable materials, the wooden hut incorporates essential features for comfortable living while minimizing environmental impact. The 15m² space includes a fixed bed, a compact kitchen, and a wood-burning stove. Though it has a composting bathroom, the campsite also offers a public bathroom with showers for guests.
