Are you struggling to keep up with your Chinese architectural history course? Finding it dull or hard to follow? If you want to learn about the history of Chinese architecture but struggle to stay motivated, the “Tsinghua University Architecture History Open Course” is now available for download to help you.

This course offers a comprehensive overview of the development of Chinese architecture, covering periods from the pre-Qin era through to the Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties.
It includes an introduction to Chinese architectural theory, as well as detailed explorations of architecture during the pre-Qin, Qin and Han, Wei and Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, Sui and Tang, Song, and Liao and Jin periods. The course also examines surviving wooden structures from the Sui and Tang dynasties onward and introduces the important Song Dynasty architectural text, Architectural Methods.

Over thousands of years, China has been home to many great cities, including Han Chang’an, Northern Wei Luoyang, Sui and Tang Chang’an and Luoyang, Northern Song Kaifeng, and Yuan Dadu. These cities were among the world’s most prosperous metropolises of their time. Although their former glory has faded, they have left behind stunning architectural masterpieces that continue to inspire awe.
