This site features a unique shape and presents a variety of challenges, including steep edges and notable elevation changes caused by natural desert erosion. The location at a corner requires significant setbacks, while the mountainous slope imposes strict limitations on the building envelope. The owner’s vision was to design a family home that echoes the surrounding mountain and valley landscape, despite the site being at the lowest elevation on the hillside.

▲ View of the distant city
Our design approach divides the house into two levels. The second floor houses the main living room and master bedroom suite, providing stunning views of the mountains, valleys, and city skyline. The lower level contains the children’s suite, guest rooms, and indoor and outdoor recreational spaces, creating a seamless connection between all areas.

▲ Back garden
The entrance hall acts as both foyer and gallery, with a staggered design that minimizes the separation between floors. This area serves as a unique transition, connecting social spaces with both formal and informal living areas.

The kitchen features custom woodwork that integrates seamlessly with the architecture, designed both sculpturally and for efficient storage. The contrast between the cool gray wood panels and steel elements evokes the warmth and drama of walnut wood often used in libraries. Floating ceiling elements and light arches define the lower space, balancing comfort with dramatic architectural proportions.
