Sample Question for Level 3 (Architectural Design) of the National BIM Skill Level Examination
Exam Requirements:
- Exam format: computer-based operation, open book;
- Exam duration: 360 minutes total (240 minutes in the morning, 120 minutes in the afternoon);
- Create a new folder named with your admission ticket number and name to store all files generated during the exam.
- By the end of the morning session, upload and submit the model and design results.
- By the end of the afternoon session, upload and submit a report file (format is flexible; PowerPoint with notes or embedded audio is recommended).
Test Sections:
- Using the provided building master plan, project overview, and requirements, independently design and create a building model with BIM software. Save the result in your folder under the filename “Building Model + Candidate Name.xxx”.
- Project Overview:
The project involves designing a tourist reception center located in a scenic area of Haikou City. The site features a gentle slope and a scenic lake to the southwest.

- Design and Modeling Requirements:
- The building must not exceed 2 floors, with a total construction area no larger than 1800 square meters. The design should ensure reasonable functionality and harmonize with the environment. Main functional areas include:
- Ticketing area: approx. 200 m²;
- Catering and kitchen area: approx. 800 m²;
- Office and reception area: approx. 200 m²;
- Store: approx. 400 m².

- Build the architectural model including grids, walls, columns, doors, windows, floors, stairs, and related components. (10 points)
- Develop landscape models covering outdoor roads, greenery, and other surrounding areas. (10 points)
- Perform at least one building performance simulation analysis based on your BIM model. Possible analyses include sunlight, lighting, ventilation, noise, or energy consumption. Provide a justified basis and clear results. (20 points)
- The final report should include but not be limited to:
- Design description;
- Overall BIM model views (interior and exterior) with renderings or animated walkthroughs of key spaces;
- General plan and detailed area tables;
- General floor plan and individual floor plans;
- Main elevations and sections;
- Building performance simulation results;
- Additional materials demonstrating your proficiency in applying BIM technology to architectural design and modeling.
The report should be neat and visually appealing, clearly showcasing your understanding of core BIM technologies, software proficiency, and your ability to integrate BIM in architectural design. (30 points)
