In Thailand, public spaces hold great significance as they foster family bonding and create a strong sense of home. This philosophy is central to the design of Room 713, a standalone residence located in the suburbs of Bangkok. The homeowner chose to demolish the old structure and commission a new design aimed at enhancing functionality, encouraging more family interaction, and strengthening the connection with nature—elements missing in the previous house.

The building’s rectangular footprint is divided into two main parts: the residential block and the landscaped area. To maximize the flow of natural scenery indoors, the design uses BIM architecture techniques to carve out a courtyard. This open space allows wind and sunlight to permeate the interior. Additionally, large openings around the building provide homeowners with uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape.

The architect carefully distinguished between semi-private and private areas. Drawing inspiration from traditional Thai homes, most public functions are located on the first floor, while private spaces occupy the second floor. Many rooms are designed as semi-outdoor spaces, promoting natural ventilation and abundant daylight. Part of the courtyard includes a pond, adding tranquility and vitality to the environment. The rooftop is dedicated to a private fitness area where residents can enjoy panoramic views of suburban Bangkok.

The building materials harmonize beautifully with the natural surroundings. Glass is extensively used to blur the line between indoors and outdoors. For exterior walls, the architects incorporated wooden screens and metal mesh in certain areas to maintain privacy while preserving views. The combination of open spaces and steel framework gives the structure a light, airy feel.

Significantly, some wood from the previous house was preserved and repurposed for flooring and yard stairs. This not only evokes nostalgia for the family but also reduces construction costs. Every element and detail was thoughtfully designed to meet the homeowner’s true satisfaction.
