This location offers a spectacular view of Mount Fuji. Some houses and farms are scattered around it, creating a harmonious but also somewhat chilly atmosphere.

The owner manages three elderly facilities locally. They hope to establish a community space around the three facility buildings for the users of the facility and local people. The specific idea is to develop and construct a rest area where you can drink tea and take care of children.

Located in the center of the enclosed area, the roof is gently positioned at different angles, open to all possible directions, allowing physical methods and visibility to be accessible from anywhere. The gentle curves of the roof create a sequential landscape that separates the garden, lounge, dining room, nursing room, and office, while the space remains connected as one.

Children play, the elderly rest, mothers stand together and chat, cats bask in the sun – (BIM) – everyone has a place under the eaves. Its design is aimed at turning this small daycare into a core space of the community, like a big tree.

The structural system consists of a portal steel frame with a height of -100×100, which stands on a reinforced concrete foundation beam to establish the boundaries between rooms, and then a 50×50 laminated veneer lumber (LVL) sits between the portal steel frames. To increase stiffness, LVL is sandwiched between two layers of 9mm structural plywood. The roof is only covered with a maximum span of 10 meters and a thickness of 86 millimeters. Using wood, roofs can be easily processed into various forms and sizes, achieving soft and lightweight curvature. Therefore, it will create a large open space filled with a warm atmosphere.
