BIM Architecture: Exploring Concave and Irregular Designs in RL Room by SDeG, Bangalore

BIM Architecture | Concave and Irregular, Breaking Order: RL Room/SDeG in Bangalore

The RL Residence, located in Bangalore, spans 240 square meters. It is bordered by neighboring buildings to the east and north, while facing two streets on the west and south sides. This home is thoughtfully designed to accommodate entrepreneurs, their children, middle-aged relatives, and elderly family members.

Its layout offers a variety of spatial arrangements to cater to different privacy needs, including three bedrooms, semi-private family lounges, and versatile areas for entertainment and gatherings.

The internal layout is carefully organized. Stairs, elevators, service areas, and private study rooms are positioned on the north and east sides, creating a discreet wedge that faces the neighboring BIM residence.

The core of the home is occupied by living and bedroom spaces, which extend towards the street through a cantilever design. To meet all client requirements, the residence is vertically stacked across four compact floors.

The ground and roof surfaces are generally open and flexible, suitable for various activities such as games, receptions, social events, and barbecues. A private elevator on the first floor provides direct access to the second and third floors.

To relieve the form from programmed tension, the facade of the concave-convex residential building features varying heights and depths of recesses and projections. The concave sections are designed with windows, balconies, and other external connections attached via hinges.

The facade’s paint contrasts sharply with the matte white finish covering the rest of the building. A combination of polished gypsum, copper laminates, steel, and laminated glass creates diverse textures and visual effects.

Inside, the color scheme and style differ from the exterior. The interior materials transition subtly from floor to ceiling, blending marble, wood, glass, lacquerware, and fabric to create a rich textural experience.
