Design Requirement: Ensuring Privacy Between Parental and Child Bedrooms

This vacation villa, spanning approximately 270 square meters, is located on the shores of Lake Rupanco, Chile. The homeowner’s primary request was to maintain as much separation as possible between the parents’ living spaces and the children’s areas. To meet this need, the architect divided the house into two distinct wings—one dedicated to the parents, the other to the children. These two sections are connected by a hallway that also serves as the main entrance to the building.

Maximizing Views of the Unique Lake Scenery

The homeowner requested that all rooms have views of the lake. Given the narrow site, it was challenging to align every room parallel to the lake. Although one wing was designed after the other, sufficient space was created to ensure that both halves enjoy views of Lake Rupanco and the Osorno volcano.

Geometric Layout: Optimizing All Functions Within the Smallest Footprint

To accommodate all the necessary functions within the architect’s proposed volume, the interior spatial division uses the minimum number of walls, creating an efficient and open layout.

Construction System

Due to the project’s remote location, the design team collaborated closely with local builders to use a familiar construction method. The structure consists mainly of wood framing, utilizing 2×4 columns and 2×8 beams. Steel beams are strategically incorporated to support heavier loads.
