The application of BIM (Building Information Modeling) in construction is essential for manufacturers. BIM involves creating a detailed model that is shared with both manufacturers and clients for integrated use throughout the project lifecycle. A BIM model is a three-dimensional parametric representation used in civil and architectural engineering. It captures the geometric information of the structures in a project through a spatial 3D model, enabling information sharing and coordination among all participants—including owners, architects, engineers, manufacturers, subcontractors, and suppliers—across various stages such as planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance management.
The process of developing BIM models primarily relies on the building, structural, and system elevation drawings provided by Party A. If, during the BIM modeling process, the construction contractor identifies any inconsistencies or questionable details in the drawings, they must promptly notify both the manufacturer and Party A. Subsequently, Party A will organize a coordination meeting to resolve any uncertainties regarding the drawings.
The execution of the BIM construction phase must adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Develop a graphical and procedural construction plan that integrates BIM models for simulation purposes. This plan should include hypothetical projects and related auxiliary tools necessary for construction.
2. Provide a BIM model based on the design timeline as the core, incorporating construction details related to manufacturing objects. Additionally, create engineering work items and process schedules, and represent these through model animations.
3. Take responsibility for updating the BIM model throughout the construction process, gradually integrating it into the final completion data.
4. Establish an information engineering management platform to facilitate communication among manufacturers, agencies, and negotiation bodies. This platform should handle design clarifications (RFIs) and design change solutions, ensuring integration of all engineering-related processes.
That concludes our discussion on the application of BIM models in construction. For your reference, the BIM model accuracy (LOD) table is attached below.
