The lack of legal clarity has hindered the seamless integration of BIM technology into design and construction workflows. Moreover, these two industries have distinct priorities: design focuses on a building’s function and aesthetics, while construction concentrates on the practical aspects of building it. As a result, even when the design model is handed over to the construction team, its practical usability remains limited.
Additionally, the technical requirements differ significantly. Design emphasizes functionality, especially for complex, large-scale buildings, whereas construction demands are often very different from those of design. Effectively bridging the gap between design and construction phases requires ongoing practice and exploration within BIM technology.
Currently, the vast potential of BIM is widely recognized. However, its successful implementation depends heavily on the standardization of industry protocols. The fragmentation of these standards remains a major barrier to future progress.
