Revit Software is one of the mainstream BIM tools widely used in China, spanning design, construction, and even operation and maintenance phases. A standout feature of this software is the introduction and application of the Family concept. With a vast collection of family libraries, users can efficiently manage their projects. Below, the author shares the Revit Family Library download link for your convenience.
Understanding Family Types in Revit
System Families: These are predefined families within Autodesk Revit that include essential building components such as walls, windows, and doors. For example, the wall system family covers various wall types like interior walls, exterior walls, foundation walls, regular walls, and partition walls. While you cannot create new system families from scratch, you can copy and modify existing ones and define new family types by adjusting parameters.
Standard Component Families: Standard component families are typically loaded by default in project templates, but a larger collection exists in the component library. These families can be created and modified using the Family Editor. You can copy, modify, or create new standard component families using various family templates. Templates may be subject-based or independent. Subject-based families depend on another family category—for example, door families rely on wall families—whereas independent families include elements like columns, trees, and furniture. Standard component families are stored outside the project environment with a .rfa extension. They can be loaded into projects, shared between projects, and saved back to your library as needed.
Built-in Families: Built-in families refer to model or annotation components created specifically within a project. These families exist only in the current project and are used for custom objects unique to that project, such as custom walls. When creating a built-in family, you select a category that governs the component’s appearance and display controls within the project.
