Many students who have previously received BIM training often find learning REVIT challenging. Since they have no prior exposure, they fear not mastering it well, which sometimes leads them to give up. It’s important to acknowledge that every new technology is inherently more difficult to master than familiar ones. Especially in today’s digital age, most new technologies rely heavily on software. To master them, you must first become comfortable with the software itself. Here, I would like to share some personal insights on how to effectively learn REVIT.
First and foremost, you need to build your confidence before diving into REVIT. Confidence is the key driver in overcoming difficulties. Although REVIT is developed based on CAD, its operation and methods of interpretation are completely different. Being proficient in CAD does not automatically mean you can operate REVIT. You will likely face more challenges and problems than with CAD, so it’s essential to believe in your ability to solve these issues.
Next, make it a habit to learn broadly and ask plenty of questions. Learning is an expanding process, and the same applies to REVIT. Don’t limit yourself to just the software’s basic functions. Explore its extensible features as well. For instance, REVIT encompasses not only modeling but also data analysis, energy consumption analysis, and more. Taking the time to understand these additional aspects will deepen your overall grasp of the software.
Additionally, combine theory with practice. There is a saying: “Practice is the only way to test truth.” This is especially true when studying REVIT. After learning the basics, you should continuously practice to assess your proficiency, identify areas needing improvement, and consolidate your knowledge. Hands-on experience is essential for mastering REVIT.
Lastly, persistence is crucial. Everything becomes easier with time and effort. Think back to your first day learning English—was it easy? Or when you first learned to walk—did you never stumble? What about your initial attempts at riding a bike—did you avoid falling or getting hurt? Just as setbacks are a natural part of learning these skills, the same applies to learning REVIT. If you feel your progress is slow, don’t be discouraged. Reflect on the areas where you struggle and analyze why you find them difficult. Since you have chosen this path, commit yourself fully. Being proactive, diligent, thoughtful, and persistent are qualities that perfectly suit learning REVIT. I personally believe that if you have a genuine interest in REVIT, clear goals, and a strong work ethic, you will succeed in mastering it.
