BIM plays a revolutionary role in the engineering and construction industry. However, as a relatively new development, the industry environment is still evolving and requires further breakthroughs.
1) Effective Integration with Design and Operations. BIM has the potential to connect the entire project lifecycle seamlessly. Yet, in practice, design, construction, and operation stages remain fragmented, and data from each phase is not efficiently shared. This lack of data flow significantly hinders the advancement of BIM applications. Software providers in the construction sector need to improve collaboration across all stages, accelerate the integration of data interfaces, and enable effective BIM utilization throughout the project lifecycle.
2) Implementing Information Technology in Construction Companies. Previous IT initiatives primarily focused on ERP systems. However, due to insufficient foundational project data, accessing core business data smoothly has been challenging. The integration of BIM with ERP represents the ideal path forward for construction companies’ IT development. For instance, Shanxi Fourth Construction has adopted ERP systems and progressively implemented office automation, human resources, and project management platforms. Simultaneously, they are introducing Luban BIM technology, concentrating on building three essential databases: BIM data, pricing, and enterprise quotas. This approach aims to integrate BIM data with ERP systems, ultimately creating a comprehensive information management platform.
