To successfully implement BIM for Party A, it is essential to clearly define the concept of BIM services, as these form the core offerings that Party A will adopt and procure. We have categorized the currently ambiguous terms of BIM services and BIM consulting services in the market into three distinct levels:
L1: BIM Consulting – This involves pure consulting without any BIM services or modeling. It typically corresponds to unstructured decision-making processes and represents a capability that Party A’s internal team should either develop independently or support through external assistance. Ultimately, building this internal expertise is crucial. This level combines organizational management skills with some technical knowledge.
L2: BIM Services – Currently, China has teams and professionals capable of delivering these services. These resources are adequate to provide targeted services to specific clients, representing a more structured and service-oriented approach compared to L1.
L3: Modeling and Data Services – This level pertains to traditional data services within the IT industry. However, the construction sector often does not regard graphics and 3D models as data. While L3 is an operational aspect included under BIM services, focusing on software operation and technology, it is necessary to distinguish it separately due to unique characteristics in China. Typically, this level is handled by modelers who may lack engineering expertise but are proficient in software operation.
