A simple and clear BIM execution plan should cover the following key points:
(1) Define the division of labor among project teams for creating BIM models. At the project’s outset, specify which team member is responsible for producing each part of the model.
(2) Educate clients on the BIM project workflow. Clearly explain how BIM workflows differ from traditional processes and how these differences impact progress, costs, and other aspects.
(3) Standardize BIM model content for each project phase. Specify the required content for BIM models during stages such as schematic design, preliminary design, and construction drawing design.
(4) Establish the required level of detail for the models. Clarify which components must be modeled, which can be excluded, and the detail level expected for the components that are included.
(5) Implement a model sharing system. Before project coordination meetings, ensure relevant personnel have the opportunity to download and review the necessary models.
(6) Manage model file sizes. Large models should be divided into smaller, more manageable parts for easier use.
