What are the advantages of BIM compared to traditional design methods? Many people have their own perspectives, whether based on theory or practical experience, and can provide numerous examples. Here, I will simply share my personal viewpoint without any tricks.
First, BIM has transformed the way designs are expressed, marking a second revolution in engineering design. It shifts the process from 2D drawings to comprehensive 3D design and construction models. More broadly, Building Information Modeling (BIM) represents a true information revolution across the entire construction industry.
Second, BIM greatly improves information sharing among project stakeholders and fosters more effective collaboration. Traditionally, it has been challenging for non-professionals to access comprehensive project information, limiting meaningful communication at various stages of the project. BIM’s 3D information models are intuitive and easy to understand, enabling the design team, construction team, supervisors, and end-users to gain a clearer, more holistic view of the project. This reduces the barriers for non-professionals and enhances interdisciplinary cooperation among all participants.
Finally, BIM supports information management throughout the entire lifecycle of construction projects, from inception to completion and beyond.
