This vacation home features a simple, linear design with symmetrically arranged windows set within a cubic layout, nestled in a white birch forest garden. A solid, minimalist cantilevered roof seamlessly connects the garage, residence, and garden terrace, uniting the various volumes into a cohesive whole. The lower level’s exterior is clad in wood, while the upper level is finished with lime plaster. Curved roof terraces and handrails add a relaxed, inviting atmosphere to the outdoor rest areas.

Entrances play a vital role in the architectural experience. Whether arriving by car or on foot, residents must pass through a transitional space connecting the roof, garage, and living areas. A large window captures the view, and entry is through a custom door clad in the same panels as the exterior facade. A subtle design highlight—a curved steel plate—accentuates the door handle, adding a distinctive finishing touch.

Inside, the concrete flooring unifies the ground floor into a spacious living area. A large window offers views of the birch forest garden and opens onto the terrace. Warm-toned lime plaster with a slightly rough texture covers the walls, providing a tactile experience that is both imperfect and perfectly balanced, contributing to a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

The staircase serves as the building’s central feature. Constructed from wood, it connects the upper and lower floors with solid wood veneered handrails and steps. This two-story vertical space culminates visually at a skylight, which directs natural sunlight down to the lower level, enhancing brightness and openness.

Known as the ‘House of Lime and Wood,’ this home is designed around a comprehensive energy-saving strategy. The main structure is a simple, compact rectangular prism, while auxiliary spaces like the garage and terrace—which do not require heating—add spatial variety. Most windows face south to maximize solar heat gain, while ground floor eaves and first-floor sunshades prevent overheating inside.
