Announcement: International Competition for the Corridor Design of Jiaoyi Bay Slow Traffic System in Dongguan Binhaiwan Bay Area
1. Project Overview
The Binhai New Area is situated at the geometric center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, serving as the core of the Golden Inner Bay. Jiaoyi Bay, a key zone for recent development within the Binhaiwan Bay Area, hosts several high-quality industrial projects, including the Cultural and Sports Park and the Miaoyong Ecological Corridor. These areas urgently require the construction of a premium slow traffic system.
The Jiaoyi Bay Slow Traffic System corridor is positioned at the intersection of Binhaiwan Avenue and Xinghai Road, acting as a junction connecting three major slow traffic vitality points: the Cultural and Sports Park, the Miaoyong Ecological Corridor, and the Gold Coast. To enhance the quality of the slow traffic system and optimize the layout of multi-dimensional slow traffic facilities, this corridor is planned to become an iconic landscape node within the new area.
To realize this vision, we are launching an international competition for the design of the Jiaoyiwan Slow Traffic System Corridor in Dongguan Binhai Bay New Area. The goal is to create a high-quality slow traffic system that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding environment and infrastructure.

2. Competition Content and Scope
The competition’s research area extends from Dongwan Avenue in the north to the Jiaoyi Bay coastline in the south, bounded by the planned secondary road of Shayong in the west and the planned secondary road of Miaoyong in the east, covering a total of 65.4 hectares.

The design scope includes the bridge scheme and the design of the node spaces at the bridge landing areas. The locations depicted for the bridge and landing zones in the diagram are schematic and not confined within the red-line boundaries. The exact placement of the bridge, its horizontal alignment, and landing points should be proposed based on comprehensive consideration of surrounding land conditions, river navigation, flood control, and other relevant factors.
The slow traffic corridor must connect the Longmiao section of the Gold Coast, the ecological seawall segment of the Gold Coast, the Miaoyong Ecological Corridor, and the Cultural and Sports Park. There are no specific restrictions on the landing zone size or the bridge’s horizontal alignment.

3. Competition Guidelines
This international competition is open globally to all outstanding design teams, with no restrictions on qualifications. Through a prequalification process, eight design teams (including consortia) will be shortlisted to participate in the design competition.
(1) Prequalification:
The competition announcement, working rules, and technical briefs will be publicly released to attract design agencies worldwide. A Prequalification Committee will review submitted applications and shortlist 8 teams to proceed to the design competition stage. Additionally, 2 candidate teams will be selected as backups to replace any shortlisted team that withdraws.
(2) Site Visit and Q&A:
Shortlisted teams will be invited for an on-site inspection and a Q&A session to clarify project requirements and context.
(3) Design Review:
An expert committee comprising specialists in architecture, landscape, and structural fields will evaluate the submissions. After reviewing design documents, multimedia presentations, team reports, and Q&A sessions, the committee will recommend three proposals to the organizing unit for final evaluation.
(4) Final Selection:
Based on expert evaluations and project implementation considerations, the organizer will rank the three recommended proposals, selecting the first-place winner. The winning team must integrate the strengths of other proposals, address expert feedback and relevant management opinions, and develop the final design submission accordingly.
