Fuqiang Primary School is part of the “Futian New Campus Action Plan – 8+1 Building Exhibition,” an initiative by the Shenzhen Planning Bureau aimed at exploring innovative campus models that foster creative education.

The learning platform is designed to support innovative teaching methods, enabling the expanded Shenzhen Fuqiang Primary School to address the growing demand for creativity and innovation-driven skills in the city’s rapidly developing economy.

To ignite curiosity and enthusiasm among teachers and students, the school embraces the concept of “mixed space.” Various courses and activities coexist within the same spatial environment, fostering new cross-disciplinary connections. For example, standard classrooms and specialty rooms are positioned next to sports fields to encourage interdisciplinary interaction. Students in the first-floor library can watch performances in the underground auditorium or physical education classes on the badminton court. The design treats space as a ‘third teacher,’ playing a vital role in students’ educational journeys.

The diverse spaces allow teachers and students to engage in flexible educational activities tailored to different age groups and interests. Outdoor learning environments range from large rooftop gardens and medium-sized inner courtyards to smaller rooftop areas, each catering to various learning needs. Spacious corridors and wide staircases double as informal learning zones, accommodating a range of classes and activities. The building’s façade features window seats, offering quiet, private spots for students to relax and participate in various activities, while also presenting a vibrant campus image to the city.

The design fosters real-world connections by integrating indoor and outdoor environments into a cohesive learning space. This approach helps students link their classroom experiences with the natural world. Natural plants are integrated throughout the campus, both horizontally and vertically, allowing students to engage deeply with nature and learn from their surroundings.

Innovative learning, emphasizing movement, hands-on experience, and creative expression, takes place in the suspended glass classrooms located on the north side of the campus. Activities such as music performances, artistic creation, and dance are visible and appreciated throughout the school. These elevated transparent classrooms face the main urban road, showcasing the school’s creative spirit to the city.

The expanded campus has doubled in size, providing more children access to high-quality education and innovative learning opportunities. The learning platform integrates the original school building, the existing STEAM facility, and new educational structures and amenities. The original Fuqiang Elementary School campus is preserved as a valuable educational heritage and has been upgraded to meet the needs of this new generation of learners.
