Tanatakah is a private villa situated just a three-minute walk from Pereira South Beach in Bali. The villa’s spatial design prioritizes privacy for parents and their two adult children, who are starting their own families, while also fostering a sense of closeness among them. Located on a 393-square-meter plot in a newly developed area focused on fashion and tourism, it lies near the vibrant community of Changgu. Surrounded by lush nature and positioned close to the river’s mouth, the site is dotted with rice paddies maintained by the local Balinese community. These surroundings inspired a creative integration of vibrant local elements and natural features into the architectural design.

The villa’s courtyard features two main structures: a wooden house and a studio, connected by a corridor bridge spanning the courtyard. Except for the wooden house, the entire facility is constructed with cast-in-place concrete walls and aluminum frames. The contrasting design between the studio and the wooden house emphasizes both the independence and privacy of their respective functions, while preserving the harmonious aesthetic of the courtyard as a whole.
The wooden house is a two-story building clad with Ulin tiles. Its interior walls and ceilings are finished with natural wood, and each floor contains bedrooms with bathrooms. Large open spaces within the wooden house create an interconnected environment, giving the dining area a lively and dynamic atmosphere.

Facing the wooden house, the studio offers a simple, open space for dining, resting, and sleeping, complete with a suite bathroom. Its rooftop garden provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, making it the perfect spot for relaxation and soaking up the sun.
The central courtyard serves as a vital element of the design, offering residents a tranquil retreat featuring lush gardens, reflective ponds, and the soothing sounds of water from the swimming pool. Walls surrounding the courtyard are covered with vines, allowing the building to seamlessly blend into the natural environment.

Sustainability is a core aspect of Tanatakah’s design. The villa is powered by a solar system that meets residents’ daily energy needs continuously. A large skylight above the shared area of the wooden house maximizes natural light, while adjustable glass windows are strategically placed to optimize cross ventilation. In the bedrooms, wooden shutters provide privacy while maintaining the connection to the natural surroundings.
