This home is designed as a suburban residence for a couple. While the living space is essential for their daily life, they also enjoy hosting large gatherings with like-minded friends. Therefore, a spacious indoor area was a key requirement. Additionally, the owner desired an open and expansive garden to accommodate various events and social activities.

The site is surrounded by residential and apartment buildings, with a busy road running in front. The “Sky Dish” is a distinctive structure situated in this suburban neighborhood. It was designed to enhance the surrounding environment and landscape while preserving privacy within the home.

A large area of vessel-shaped tile roofs and exterior walls wrap around a winding circular footprint. The roof design blocks views from neighboring properties while bringing the sky into the interior space. Thanks to the generous site, a green garden was placed on the outer side of the exterior wall. The windows are minimalistic, allowing abundant high-level natural light and ventilation through strategically placed openings. Inside, gently curved gypsum walls serve as elegant backdrops for artwork and decorations.

On one side of the courtyard, large windows of various shapes invite in wind, light, and views of greenery. Although the exterior appears relatively enclosed, the interior is bright and spacious, creating an inviting atmosphere.

The laminated wooden beams that support the roof radiate evenly from the building’s center. The distance between the center and outer walls varies gradually, ensuring each space has ample width and height. The exterior walls are symmetrical both horizontally and vertically, with varying radii in each direction.

Facing the main road, areas like the garage and private entrance have lower eaves, while the living and dining rooms feature larger, higher ceilings. This arrangement creates a continuous space under the expansive roof and includes courtyards of varying sizes, all while incorporating roofs at different heights.

The design embraces the natural environment, allowing residents to enjoy rich landscapes even within a residential setting. The central courtyard serves not only as a private retreat but also as a gallery or event space. The curved tile roof frames the sky beautifully, collects rainwater, and gently reflects sunlight. When seated on the courtyard benches and looking upward, occupants feel connected to nature, as if blending seamlessly with the sky above.
