Currently, many enterprises implementing BIM have yet to fully grasp its importance. As a result, they often form small BIM teams and leave them to self-study. Unfortunately, such teams typically operate in a laissez-faire manner, leading to only basic BIM modeling or, worse, wasted efforts. Why does this happen? The following analysis highlights common misconceptions enterprises have about BIM.
1. They fail to recognize the strategic value of BIM implementation. Many do not view BIM as a critical opportunity to differentiate their company from competitors, and thus do not dedicate sufficient attention or resources to it.
2. They underestimate the complexity and scope of BIM applications, including its collaborative nature. Some believe BIM can be mastered simply by purchasing software and assigning a few young, computer-savvy project engineers to experiment with it.
3. Without proper time and cost management, BIM can be challenging to master. While learning basic modeling is relatively straightforward, refining skills requires integrating cross-disciplinary knowledge and accumulating project experience. It takes considerable time to transition from learning to productive application. Without professional guidance, many give up halfway or fail to achieve meaningful results.
That concludes today’s analysis of common enterprise misconceptions about BIM. With the increasing adoption and continuous application of BIM in our country, I am confident these challenges will gradually be overcome.
