Quality control using BIM technology offers significant advantages, but its application scope, stages, and key points still face certain limitations. Currently, several challenges hinder the widespread adoption and implementation of BIM technology:

1. The mindset of project management and construction personnel is difficult to change. Many still rely heavily on their traditional two-dimensional drawing experience and do not fully recognize BIM as an innovative technology. They tend to resist breaking away from conventional management practices.
2. There is a shortage of skilled professionals proficient in BIM technology. As a relatively new technology in the construction industry, BIM is still evolving, and its theoretical framework is not yet fully developed. Furthermore, the cultivation and widespread training of BIM talent have not been sufficiently promoted, resulting in a limited pool of experts who can effectively apply BIM.
3. The scope of BIM model applications in quality control remains limited. Most BIM models focus on 3D visualization during the construction preparation phase, collision detection, 3D construction technique disclosure during construction, and quality process control. However, there are few applications targeting quality control during the later operation and maintenance stages.
Considering these challenges and drawing from the successful experiences of advanced construction enterprises in China, the following strategies are proposed to enhance BIM technology application:
1. Shift the traditional mindset of project management personnel. At the enterprise’s leadership level, increase awareness by organizing the development of BIM management systems and workflows, integrating BIM technology into the company’s strategic development plans. At the operational level, adopt a lightweight BIM application approach. Allow management staff to use BIM technology to address practical management challenges, experience efficiency gains firsthand, and recognize BIM’s value. Gradually develop project-level BIM application processes that involve multiple departments working collaboratively on a unified platform, promoting comprehensive project management.
2. Refine the BIM quality control system and management processes. Address challenges in applying BIM for quality control in construction projects by optimizing the organizational structure, clarifying responsibilities, and streamlining operational workflows for the BIM team within the project department. Additionally, reassess the effectiveness of BIM in quality control, enhance the content and procedures of the BIM quality control system—especially for the operation and maintenance phases—and develop a BIM-based quality control guidance manual.
3. Foster BIM talent development within enterprises. Establish training mechanisms to build BIM expertise through external learning opportunities, participation in BIM workshops, and technology exchange events. Create a BIM studio to promote professionalism and advance BIM applications under the guidance of technical experts and BIM specialists. Simultaneously, form a BIM team within the project department to continuously explore and research BIM applications, ensuring the technology truly supports construction project management and elevates the enterprise’s refined management capabilities.
