BIM technology is increasingly being applied in practical projects. It enhances overall project quality, controls costs, and facilitates information flow throughout every stage of the project lifecycle.

During the design phase, platforms like Revit enable all technical specifications and variables related to architecture, materials, and decoration to be considered simultaneously. This allows stakeholders with diverse interests and requirements to collaborate on the design process in real time. The integration of everyone’s needs and the comprehensive analysis of information changes ensure seamless data connectivity across project stages. This approach guarantees that the design accurately and effectively reflects all parties’ requirements, improving both quality and efficiency.
Collaborative design has evolved beyond simple design exchanges into a new concept and methodology enabled by BIM integration. In China, as BIM technology becomes more widespread, collaborative design based on BIM is gaining significant attention and has become a leading topic in the industry. Current discussions mostly focus on the necessity of BIM-based collaboration and the foundational frameworks of collaborative platforms. However, there is relatively limited research addressing application-level technologies such as choosing BIM collaboration modes and designing implementation plans.
To address this gap, practical exploration using Revit software has been conducted, focusing on BIM collaborative design operations—such as workspace division, permission settings, and collaborative management. This work aims to develop an application system suited for BIM-based collaborative workflows.
By summarizing design lessons and applying hands-on experience from construction projects, BIM applications drive scientific research and innovation that enhance project quality. Implementing BIM technology in project workflows also effectively controls costs. The objectives of improving quality, managing costs, and streamlining information flow are unified under BIM’s support. Applying mature BIM collaboration technologies and workflows in engineering practice, in cooperation with relevant stakeholders, has led to breakthroughs in research and innovation, improvements in BIM information models, and valuable lessons learned, serving as a model for future projects.
This concludes the overview of BIM technology’s design concepts and methods. Opinions may vary, but I hope this article proves useful to everyone!
