The rise of BIM software has significantly streamlined workflows for professionals in the architecture industry. However, equating BIM software solely with BIM technology, or viewing BIM use merely as a means to create “exceptional individuals,” overlooks its vast potential to elevate the entire industry’s standards. Today, a collaborative approach known as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is rapidly gaining traction, leveraging model capabilities to support joint decision-making.

The Integrated Project Delivery model differs somewhat from traditional construction approaches by involving key project stakeholders early in the process. This includes the owner, designers, contractors, supervisors, and material suppliers who collaboratively discuss and shape the project’s design, quality, management, and cost aspects. This approach enables comprehensive, full lifecycle management of the construction project.
At the core of this delivery model are BIM models, which enhance communication among participants by facilitating the seamless exchange of project and model information. In IPD, model checking software such as Autodesk, NavisWorks, Solibri, and Bentley ProjectWise Navigator plays a crucial role. These tools are favored not only for their user-friendly interfaces and impressive visualization capabilities but also because they promote non-conflicting, collaborative workflows during design. This early detection and resolution of potential conflicts—often costly if discovered on site—help reduce correction expenses significantly.
