The national agency overseeing Singapore’s construction industry is the Building Authority (BCA). As early as 1982, BCA envisioned implementing artificial intelligence in planning and approval processes. Between 2000 and 2004, BCA developed the CORENET project, an automated approval and online submission system for electronic planning. This initiative became the world’s first automated approval system.

In Denmark, public works projects valued over 2 million euros are required to utilize BIM technology and adhere to IFC standards. In China, BIM technology has expanded beyond the construction sector into municipal, transportation, water conservancy, and hydropower industries. This expansion has driven technological upgrades and transformation across the entire construction industry. For instance, large urban development projects in Beijing Sub-center, Xiong’an New Area, and Qianhai in Shenzhen have extensively researched and applied BIM technology across architecture, municipal administration, transportation, and water management. These efforts have accumulated valuable experience, facilitating the widespread adoption and sustainable development of BIM technology throughout China.
Research indicates that BIM technology, both domestically and internationally, primarily focuses on integrated applications in urban planning and design. These include visual analyses of individual buildings, road traffic, water conservancy bridges, and other municipal projects, as well as urban landscapes and green buildings. BIM enables full lifecycle management of multidisciplinary construction and park development projects, covering stages such as design, bidding, construction, completion acceptance, and operation and maintenance, including building quality inspections.
In the detailed design of prefabricated buildings, BIM mainly addresses information collaboration challenges. It allows simulation of key production processes and sequences in advance, generating optimal construction plans. Additionally, BIM supports precise management of emergency scenarios like fires, including personnel evacuation simulations and emergency response planning.
