BIM’s greatest strength lies in information integration, with collaborative design being its core working mode. Ultimately, BIM applications aim to support project success. Below are two recommended BIM collaboration platform software:
1) Autodesk Vault
Autodesk Vault is a product developed by Autodesk that integrates seamlessly with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and other workgroup data management systems. It enables design teams to store and search various CAD files (such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, DWG, and DWF), non-CAD files (Microsoft Word, Excel), FEA, CAM files, and any other files used throughout the design process.
During project design, a vast amount of CAD and non-CAD data files are generated. Managing, retrieving, sharing, and reusing these files often presents challenges for project managers. Autodesk Vault addresses these issues by centralizing all data on a Vault server, facilitating easy tracking, management, and version control.
Once files are added to the Vault, project team members can effortlessly share, view, edit, and manage them. Vault supports two main methods for file editing. As a data management tool for workgroups, Autodesk Vault helps teams monitor progress, control file versions, and improve design efficiency. It allows team members to collaborate remotely by viewing and modifying files directly within the platform.
2) Bentley ProjectWise
Bentley ProjectWise offers a process-oriented, standardized building lifecycle management system that supports collaborative information management following workflow protocols. It provides an integrated environment for managing project content collaboratively.
The ProjectWise platform effectively manages various Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (A/E/C) file types. Through robust security and access controls, it unites all project participants on a single platform, enhancing communication and coordination.
ProjectWise primarily manages these types of files:
- Engineering drawing files: DGN, DWG, raster images, and more
- Engineering management documents: design standards, project specifications, progress reports, logs, etc.
- Engineering resource files: templates, professional unit libraries, font libraries, calculation sheets, and others
Using a distributed storage approach across various locations, Bentley ProjectWise supports collaboration across multiple projects simultaneously. It also features local caching technology, ensuring efficient remote collaboration and effective control over project content.
