When discussing BIM software, foreign solutions have long dominated the market. However, in recent years, a number of domestic companies have made significant strides, introducing many valuable BIM tools. Today, we will focus on evaluating two such domestic BIM software products: Guanglian Da BIM5D and Luban.
Guanglian Da BIM5D
BIM5D is a BIM software developed by Guanglian Da Company, designed specifically to support detailed management of construction projects. Unlike design or modeling software, BIM5D is tailored for general contractors to utilize models and data related to scheduling, cost, and quality to manage projects effectively.
The software features a “three terminals and one cloud” architecture, which includes PC, mobile, and browser platforms. Management personnel use the PC terminal to simulate construction processes and plan upcoming tasks. Construction workers operate the mobile terminal to receive assignments and provide real-time feedback on task completion. Meanwhile, all project stakeholders can access the browser terminal primarily to monitor overall project progress.
Despite its strengths, BIM5D faces some challenges in processing information data. One major issue is the digital correlation of all data, a common hurdle in the BIM industry. Another challenge lies in real-time data updates; the software currently relies on static data, while many project elements are dynamic. Improving the efficiency of data input and modification remains a key area for future development.
Luban Software
Luban Company focuses extensively on BIM technology research and promotion. It has developed a broad range of software solutions, including modeling software, cost estimation tools, and BIM application platforms, serving construction technicians, management teams, and enterprise-level users.
At the core of Luban’s offerings is a cloud-based data backend that integrates traditional modeling and cost software with its innovative BIM application suite, creating a seamless closed-loop system. Users start by creating models and relevant information using conventional modeling and cost calculation tools, then upload this data to the cloud platform. From there, various BIM software modules and plugins can be utilized according to specific user needs, providing flexible and comprehensive project management capabilities.
