Today, we will introduce three methods for importing CAD files into ArchiCAD (AC):
1. Using the Xref Method
ArchiCAD integrates well with CAD files. When a file is exported back to AC, it retains the original name. These names are also imported into AC, but they include the CAD file name as a prefix along with an attached Xref attribute.
As shown in the image below, you can modify the CAD file name prefix using a “do parameter.” This ensures that the additional Xref attribute entries are sorted alphabetically at the end, preventing interference with your other drawing selections.

2. Using Files → Interoperability → Merge CAD
This method merges the CAD file into ArchiCAD. If AC already has a corresponding fill for the CAD file, no new fill types will be added.
3. Using Files → External Content → Place External Graphics
When using this method, no CAD properties are added to ArchiCAD.
You can configure external graphics to update automatically through the graphics settings.
