BIM, or Building Information Modeling, is a multidimensional information integration technology developed alongside advances in computer technology. Building upon traditional CAD technology, BIM uses digital tools to create virtual models of buildings on computers. It provides a unified, complete, consistent, and logical database of building information that spans the entire lifecycle of a building, storing extensive data such as design details, construction information, and maintenance records.

The construction plan greatly influences the quality, schedule, and cost of a project. BIM-based construction plan optimization involves using BIM technology to analyze and validate the feasibility of construction plans. Based on the analysis results from BIM software, construction techniques and plans are adjusted and optimized to improve their practicality and operability.
Utilizing BIM, site planning, construction process simulation, visual presentations, and drawing reviews are conducted by leveraging BIM’s visualization, parameterization, and analytical capabilities. Before the project begins, errors detected by BIM software and issues identified through visual inspections allow for the rectification and optimization of site layouts and construction plans. This process culminates in a comprehensive feasibility report for the construction plan, which highlights the viability of the approach through 3D building information models and documents any defects or precautions related to infeasible plans.
Through construction simulation powered by BIM, detailed management information—such as construction sequencing, interdependencies, resource allocation, and construction measures—can be pre-demonstrated. This information facilitates communication among stakeholders and produces process diagrams, animated videos, and other materials useful for on-site guidance and technical disclosures. Visual presentations based on simulated drawings and animations enhance three-dimensional realism, reduce rework caused by misunderstandings among technical staff, and provide clearer direction for actual construction activities.
