With the support of national and local policies, theoretical research on BIM technology has steadily advanced, leading to significant improvements in its application. BIM technology has been successfully implemented in numerous large-scale projects, including the Tianjin 117 Building, Shanghai International Financial Center, Huazhong Zhongjiao City, and the Macau A-Ma underground transportation hub. Beyond practical use, Wanda Group has also launched a dedicated research and development initiative to explore the BIM information platform.
The Tianjin 117 Building project features a main tower standing 597 meters tall. BIM technology is applied throughout the entire project lifecycle, resulting in 246 optimization suggestions through pipeline integration and collision detection. This process corrected design flaws and drawing errors, accelerating the overall project schedule by 90 days ahead of contract deadlines. Enhanced collaboration and information sharing improved management levels. Utilizing BIM models, the project provided data support for measurement, change management, and other business operations, enabling seamless information exchange between design models and business management systems. This integration met both technical and operational needs, boosting business computing efficiency by over 30%.
The Shanghai International Financial Center project is a complex consisting of both above-ground and underground structures, covering a vast area. BIM technology was employed to enable 4D integrated dynamic management across the entire project lifecycle. This approach managed construction progress and costs, coordinated site arrangements, and delivered 4D visual simulations during construction. As a result, the project saw a substantial improvement in the informatization and efficiency of construction management.
During the construction phase of the Zhongjiaocheng project in Central China, BIM modeling standards and full-process BIM application standards were established. These efforts advanced the project schedule, enhanced quality, and significantly reduced direct costs. Similarly, the Macau A-Ma underground transportation hub utilized BIM technology to refine design details, resolve issues like design irrationalities and omissions, and helped reduce modifications by approximately 80 million yuan. This resulted in considerable economic benefits and shortened the total construction period by 42 days.
Wanda Group has further deepened its BIM technology applications by initiating a specialized R&D project to develop the “Wanda BIM Technology Platform.” This platform aims to create an integrated project management system that involves all stakeholders, thereby improving management efficiency. Through this BIM platform, rigorous cost management throughout the project lifecycle is achieved, strengthening the cost management system’s capabilities.
The Xichang shantytown renovation project, a large-scale PPP housing construction endeavor, also employs BIM technology for project management. This has yielded a cumulative theoretical economic benefit of 4.75 million yuan, significantly enhancing direct economic returns, indirect management efficiency, and time savings throughout the project.
