BIM software is currently applied across various fields, including simulation, construction, energy consumption, plumbing, electrical systems, and GIS. In China, the five most commonly used BIM software types are as follows.

Revit is one of the most widely used BIM software in China. It is built on the core platform of Revit Architecture and integrates with other tools to perform structural analysis and pipeline optimization for engineering projects. The model’s components and views have a strong bidirectional connection, so any change to a component’s data automatically updates all related data and views.
Navisworks is a core BIM software widely adopted for visualization and analysis of different file formats. It supports various stakeholders, including construction teams and project owners, allowing them to view 3D design models anytime. Navisworks excels at data integration and sharing, combining information models created in Revit and AutoCAD with geometries and data from other software. It also supports multiple file formats for timely review of data and model information.
Bentley Navigator offers advanced inspection and analysis features compared to other software. It enables testing and collision detection within building information models. By creating a simulation rendering of a project’s construction, users can preview it in real time and perform collision tests to identify potential issues. This helps optimize the design and prevent problems during actual construction by integrating collision detection into the structural workflow.
Tekla Structures is a popular 3D solid modeling software in the construction industry. It supports conceptual design, detailed design, project modifications, and building structure assembly. Nearly all project-related data can be shared directly without conversion, enabling online collaboration among users for design tasks.
ArchiCAD was one of the earliest widely adopted BIM software during BIM’s initial growth. It centrally stores all project-related data in a database and automatically generates reports such as construction schedules, quantity takeoffs, and virtual reality scenes. Additionally, ArchiCAD integrates with other software to manage and control data throughout the entire lifecycle of engineering projects.
