What is BIM5D technology? In simple terms, BIM5D technology has evolved from the progression of BIM technology, moving from 1D to multiple dimensions. BIM1D refers to the original hand-drawn engineering drawings, while BIM2D represents the transition from hand-drawn to electronic drawings. With advancements in computer technology, BIM3D has matured, enabling information sharing through 3D construction project models.
Building on 3D-BIM, adding a time dimension creates BIM4D, which simulates the construction process to schedule tasks efficiently and optimize workflows. BIM5D further enhances this by incorporating cost information into the 3D model with the time dimension. This integration of 3D data, schedule management, and cost management results in a comprehensive project management platform that supports collaboration, sharing, and integration of model data, schedules, costs, resources, and more.

Currently, the most practical modules within the 5D refined management platform for engineering applications are construction simulation, material inquiry, and report management.
The construction simulation module links the imported schedule with 3D model data, allowing users to simulate the construction process over a selected time period through a viewport. During simulation, users can view current or cumulative values of funding curves, resource curves, or project quantities for that period. Notably, the schedule includes three key types: planned schedule, expected schedule, and actual schedule. This enables dynamic tracking by comparing funding and resource curves against planned and actual data, helping analyze schedule deviations.
Material inquiries are aligned with the actual construction workflow. Users can query resource demands and procurement plans by profession, time, schedule, floor, work section, or custom modes.
In report management, data is generated based on model information and progress tracking. Enhancements in calculation software—such as Guanglianda for steel bar and civil engineering calculations—mean that resource demand and procurement plans in the 5D platform are calculated based on the schedule rather than just engineering quantities or uniform resource data during construction.
