This residence was designed for a young family with three children, covering a building area of 1200 square meters. Situated on a 1600 square meter plot on a rocky hillside in Senggigi, Lombok Island, the site features a steep slope with a height difference of approximately 25 meters between the main road and the property boundary. While the terrain posed a challenge, it also offers breathtaking views of the horizon.
The primary design challenge was to maximize the site’s potential while creating a cozy and intimate home within the expansive and steep landscape.

The architect’s approach was to elevate the main building volume to frame an uninterrupted seaside landscape. The design consists of three distinct building volumes: two parallel blocks facing the most scenic views, and a third positioned diagonally to optimize the narrower rear section of the lot.
Between these volumes, a series of outdoor spaces were integrated to enhance movement and create smooth transitions between different functional areas.

Due to the steep slope, navigating vertically from the entrance to the highest point of the building required careful planning. The entrance was designed as a cave-like slope, evoking a sense of solidity and welcome.
Upon entering, a semi-outdoor staircase immediately leads to the living room. A family room, positioned between the dining area and bedrooms, serves as a transitional space visually connected to the main study, forming the heart of the home. The journey culminates at a small rooftop chapel, accessible via a landscaped staircase at the rear of the house.

One of the main challenges was the intense solar radiation on the west-facing side, which offers the best views. To address this, the building is separated from the rock face by a narrow gap, allowing for effective natural air circulation.
Additionally, composite woven vertical panels are strategically installed at specific angles to filter direct sunlight, reducing heat gain while maintaining the openness of the design.
