The Building and Construction Authority of Singapore (BCA) has invested $6 million to support BIM technology through training, consulting, and software and hardware acquisitions. This funding aims to encourage construction companies to be early adopters and users of BIM technology software.

Universities in Singapore offer courses focused on the application and development of BIM technology software. Construction companies can apply for BIM funding, but they must also send some employees to attend BCA-organized training sessions, such as BIM modeling and management skills courses. Government agencies lead by setting practical requirements for BIM applications and by initiating demonstration projects. The University of Singapore provides various BIM-related courses and specialized training programs to cultivate skilled professionals, including dedicated BIM degree programs. These initiatives contribute to enhancing the country’s overall BIM capabilities and increasing BIM adoption.
Since 1995, Singapore has prioritized research in BIM technology. The national development department launched the IT project Corenet (Construction and Real Estate Network), which focuses on using computer technology to simulate business processes (BPR) to improve efficiency, reduce project completion times, and enhance outcomes. A key component, e-planCheck, uses computer programs to digitally verify building models, identifying where designs do not comply with building regulations. The project has received strong support from government departments and institutions and has formed strategic collaborations with international organizations to develop the BIM system. By adhering to the IFC2x2 standard set by the International Interoperability Consortium, the system ensures international compatibility and has achieved effective implementation results.
