In the early phases of traditional project schedule management, the critical chain method was implemented and yielded certain positive results. However, as the project advanced, numerous changes were introduced by the owner, especially in the later stages. Coordination among professional teams was insufficient, particularly during pipeline installation and decoration. Frequent owner-driven modifications, design changes, and poor construction coordination led to pipeline clashes and non-compliance with design requirements. These challenges significantly increased the complexity of managing the project schedule. To effectively address these issues and meet scheduling objectives, Building Information Modeling (BIM) was introduced into project management, with a focus on schedule control during installation and decoration.

The adoption of BIM technology in progress management represents an efficient and innovative approach to engineering project oversight. This method supports lean management principles, which align with lean construction theory. BIM schedule management encompasses the entire project lifecycle and serves as a unified management system for all stakeholders. By using a common scheduling approach, all parties collaborate to develop and maintain the project timeline, fostering comprehensive teamwork. Within this BIM-driven schedule management framework, project managers can jointly oversee the entire project, enabling all stakeholders to participate actively, monitor progress in real time, and implement dynamic adjustments.
Traditional project schedule management often relies on delayed feedback, which can take considerable time to influence schedule adjustments. This lag significantly restricts project progress and scheduling flexibility. With BIM integrated into schedule management, the number of participants involved in managing the project increases, and construction progress can be dynamically simulated. This capability allows for early identification of potential schedule risks and enables proactive control measures, providing valuable data insights that improve overall project schedule management.
