International architecture firm 10 Design, part of the Egis Group, has unveiled the conceptual design for the Sun Group’s Fragrant Island project. Located on Bai Trao Beach, Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam, this development aims to become a landmark integrated resort and premier tourist destination in the region.

The project is led by design partners José Cláudio Silva and Peter Barrett. This modern, comprehensive tourist destination offers breathtaking views of the sea, backed by the lush mountains of Xiangdao Island. Guests can reach the beach, water sports facilities, and beach clubs within just five minutes from the luxury resort.

Situated in the northwest of Xiangdao, the resort overlooks a spectacular one-kilometer coastline that spans 20 hectares of pristine beaches and coastal landscapes. The master plan includes private and VIP boat docks, public docks, and helipads to facilitate connections to surrounding islands. Visitors can also take a cable car to Fuguo Island. The resort features luxury hotels, hotel-style apartments, coastal and cliff-top villas, townhouses, and seaside clubs with panoramic coastal views.

The main resort building, located in Bai Trao district on Hong Kong Island, is designed to resemble two full sails, guiding a navigation boat toward the Gulf of Thailand. Deluxe rooms are positioned along the sail’s curve, offering stunning views of the sky and green mountains. A double-layer glass facade emphasizes the sail’s light and dynamic form. Public spaces such as the observation deck and garden occupy the lower floors, acting as a podium that connects the hotel with various entertainment venues.

The coastal area features a series of luxurious high-end residential villas. With an expansive swimming pool, garden, outdoor terraces, and pathways leading to private beaches, the villa complex blurs the line between nature and architecture, seamlessly blending into the natural surroundings.
The commercial beach club, located at the center, is a large circular structure housing public spaces, retail shops, and a pool deck. The design incorporates locally inspired wooden tile roofs, outdoor wooden structures, and warm-toned stone materials. Inside, an atrium with skylights beautifully frames views of the mountains and sea.

The core row villas are situated along the main road leading south within the resort. These row houses and boutique hotels cascade down the hillside, forming a low-rise European-style villa complex that resembles a charming seaside town. The development includes a circular open-air theater, a public square, and a large yacht marina, all connected by linear parks and coastal pedestrian walkways. At the road’s end lies Fisherman’s Wharf, which extends over rocky shores. The shops feature glass storefronts built directly on the rocks, creating the impression of standing in the sea.

Barry Shapiro, Managing Director of Asia, commented, “We are thrilled to have completed the master planning and conceptual design for the Xiangdao project, a coastal gem in the Fuguo Island region set to become a world-class integrated entertainment destination. Xiangdao Resort marks a significant milestone as the first major project by our 10 Design Singapore office. As our Singapore team expands, we plan to move into a larger office space and continue growing our influence throughout Southeast Asia with professional design and outstanding execution.”
