This project is located in Hanjiang District, Yangzhou, at the intersection of Yunhe North Road and the ancient canal. On the south side of the site lies a rare east-west canal basin in Yangzhou, spanning 80 meters wide. A 600-meter canal scenic belt and a 400-meter private residential road connect the living spaces along a one-kilometer riverfront, gradually unveiling a picturesque Yangzhou riverside residence.

The design emphasizes the building’s strong connection to its local context. For spatial planning, it adopts Yangzhou’s unique garden design techniques, dividing the art museum’s overall flow into five distinct sections: one gate, two gardens, three halls, four waters, and five movements. This approach aims to intricately express the relationship between each space and structure, resulting in a captivating and harmonious visual experience.

The building faces the canal, engaging in a dialogue with the river. Canal waves seem to stack and move forward, striking the building’s facade which forms five wave-shaped surfaces of varying shapes, staggered in depth. These facades interlock with the glass volumes, blending virtual and real elements, creating a close connection between the architecture and its environment.

The main facade features aluminum plate grilles that echo the traditional sloping roof tiles of Jiangnan architecture through repeated vertical lines. A recurring arc element throughout the design serves as a key visual symbol, defining the building’s identity. The lighting design accentuates these unique features while creating a rhythmic ambiance. At night, the illuminated building transforms, standing prominently by the riverbank.

The nearly twelve-meter-high metal grille curtain wall on the facade posed a significant design challenge, requiring the metal rods to appear tall and sleek. By categorizing the rods and applying modular design, the team ensured uniformity. During installation, sleeve fixation minimized the need for crossbeams behind the rods, creating a lightweight and transparent grille. Inspired by Yangzhou’s calligraphy culture, metal engravings adorn the rod ends, blending architectural beauty with intricate detailing.
