Currently, many domestic enterprises apply BIM, but the vast majority struggle to turn a profit. To truly benefit from BIM, companies must not only optimize their internal processes but also develop a correct attitude and understanding of BIM technology. Below, I share some key points that are essential to successfully profiting from BIM.
1. Experienced designers and project managers play a crucial role in digital estimation. A common misconception is that intelligent solutions and powerful software alone can make younger or less experienced employees more effective. In reality, seasoned professionals bring valuable expertise during the construction phase, especially with complex components. Moreover, many BIM software tools require significant effort and human input to enhance project quality.
2. It is vital to invest time and effort in training employees early in the project to ensure they can use BIM software correctly and efficiently.
3. Establishing a standardized database aligned with the project’s estimation methods is essential. When adopting conceptual estimation software, a substantial initial investment is needed to translate estimation rules and methods into model variables, parameters, and component attributes. Over time, this upfront effort leads to significantly reduced costs for similar projects.
4. Owners and other stakeholders should provide data templates or spreadsheets for evaluation and analysis. Linking these templates directly to spreadsheets can streamline the process, eliminating unnecessary steps and enabling software tools that allow owners to easily review data. This integration affects not only construction costs but also operational revenues and expenses.
The points above reflect my personal views on what is necessary to profit from BIM. If you have different opinions, please feel free to leave comments so we can discuss and learn from each other.
