According to reports, Manser Practice in London has won the competition to renovate and expand the German Embassy in Ethiopia.
This renovation and expansion project in Addis Ababa is part of a larger £25 million plan.

Manser Studio announced that its team, which includes BDP Engineering and local MH Engineering, was selected over five other competitors. They will be responsible for delivering a new visa consulate building, a diplomatic residence, and part of the rebuilt embassy complex.
The studio emphasized that their winning proposal focuses on designing sustainable, environmentally friendly buildings suited to Ethiopia’s climate and high-altitude environment. The design highlights the use of local materials and traditional craftsmanship, such as white marble and cast concrete.
Their plan aims to make the embassy more self-sufficient than before. The new design will unify construction methods while blending local cultural influences with thoughtful European architectural details.

CEO Jonathan Manser highlighted that his studio’s extensive experience designing diplomatic buildings across Africa and the Middle East has underscored the importance of responding to local climates and materials.
He stated, “Since being invited to participate in the competition, we have collaboratively sought creative solutions that respect the existing site structure and leverage the finest local craftsmanship to create a cohesive embassy campus.”
The first phase of construction is scheduled to begin in October of next year.
