Enning Road is situated in the heart of Xiguan Old Town, Guangzhou. As urban development increasingly shifted focus away from this area, the renovation of Enning Road had long been awaited but faced numerous challenges. It wasn’t until 2016, when Vanke successfully transformed the Yongqing Street area into a new integrated business district, that the project was realized.
From the early stages, we participated in planning the business layout and design control, collaborating closely with Vanke’s business resources. Our aim was for the project to evolve into a vibrant urban block featuring diverse commercial formats and enriched city life, rather than merely restoring a nostalgic facade.

Our design vision for the renovated Yongqingfang area embraces diversity, balancing traditional architectural styles with a contemporary community atmosphere.

In our BIM tutorials, we promote an “organic update” approach. This means the entire block preserves the original planning and construction wisdom, while allowing each building to express its unique character — a true “micro renovation.”

Our restoration strategy involves two key aspects: first, preserving and reinforcing historic buildings by faithfully restoring their original appearance as much as possible; second, removing outdated elements and boldly integrating transparent, open, flexible, and creative features demanded by modern uses. This juxtaposition of old and new revitalizes the neighborhood.
The design actively explores small-scale spatial interventions, facade preservation and reinforcement, and the revival of traditional spirit — highlighting the cutting-edge nature of historic building renovation.
