The interior design of the Qatar National Museum, created by Haoyi Takada, tells the story of Qatar’s rich history. This design reflects the origins of trade, the nomadic lifestyle, and the stunning natural environment of the region. By engaging with local communities, the designers have transformed these narratives into visual elements and immersive experiences that leave a lasting impression.

Dahl AlMisfir, also known as “Cave Light,” is a protected underground area located in the heart of Qatar. It features fibrous gypsum crystals that emit a subtle, moonlit phosphorescence. Gypsum commonly appears along star cluster paths, such as in the famous “Desert Rose.” These crystals form in various fluorescent and translucent shapes, interacting dynamically with light to transform the space throughout the day.

The wooden walls of the museum shop are inspired by the cave’s natural light. This organic architecture reflects Koichi Takada’s vision of reconnecting nature with architectural design, creating a harmonious bond between humans and the environment. Using advanced 3D modeling software, the team achieved complex curves and surfaces that are difficult to describe in words.

Imagine assembling 40,000 wooden blocks into a three-piece puzzle. Each CNC-cut wooden block, crafted in Italy, is unique and can only fit with its exact complementary pieces. Italian carpenters, led by Claudio Devoto and his team in Doha, hand-assembled these blocks. This meticulous craftsmanship pays homage to Jean Nouvel’s Desert Rose design and celebrates Qatar’s desert landscape and natural heritage.
