The LUMA Tower, designed by Frank Gehry and his team, is nearing completion. The tower now rises prominently over the scenic urban landscape of Arles in southern France. This ancient Roman city boasts heritage buildings dating back centuries, including a circular open-air theater built in 90 AD, reminiscent of the architectural language of Roman amphitheaters. With its historic urban fabric and warm Mediterranean climate, Arles is also known for having been home to artist Vincent van Gogh for ten years. Today, another celebrated artist has left a mark here with a twisted tower clad in aluminum panels.

The “LUMA Arles” project, led by Swiss collector Marja Hoffman, founder and chairwoman of the LUMA Foundation, was designed by Frank Gehry. This landmark building replaces an old railway warehouse and links two historic railway buildings renovated by Selldorf Architects in New York, which were recently converted into exhibition halls. The LUMA Building will host a variety of functions, including research facilities, workshops, conference rooms, and artist studios. Surrounding the building, a park is being designed by landscape architecture firm Bas Smets.
