Sample Questions for Level 3 (Construction) of the National BIM Skill Level Examination

Exam Requirements:

1. Exam format: computer-based, open book.
2. Exam duration: 360 minutes total (240 minutes in the morning and 120 minutes in the afternoon).
3. Create a new folder named with your “admission ticket number + name” to save all files generated during the exam. Submit the model and design results by the end of the morning session. By the end of the afternoon session, submit a report file (format not specified; recommended to use a PPT with notes or embedded audio).

Test Sections:

1. Using the provided construction drawings, organizational materials, and documents, independently create a construction model with BIM software. Based on this model, develop detailed construction design, organization, and management plans. Save the results in your folder with the filename format: “Construction Model + Candidate Name.xxx”.

2. Project Overview:
This project is a parking garage located in Beijing, consisting of 5 floors: 4 above ground and 1 underground. The above-ground structure reaches a height of 15.0 meters to the parapet, with each floor measuring 3.0 meters in height. The basement floor is 2.5 meters high. Currently, the project is at the structural construction stage, with the roof and all structures up to the F4 level completed, and secondary structure and plastering on the F1 floor finished. The next steps include structural work on the F5 floor and masonry and plastering on the F2 floor and above.

3. Attachment Materials:
Construction drawings (including details on construction equipment, materials, and other relevant information), and BIM models in IFC format (covering architectural, structural, and electromechanical components).

4. Specific Requirements for Construction Modeling and Management:

1) Create a construction model
a) Import IFC BIM models into the relevant software (5 points).
b) Complete detailed construction design modeling and create multi-dimensional construction information to support management (points allocated accordingly).

2) Construction deepening design:
Complete detailed design for the F5 floor nodes from axis 11 to axis D (10/16) (10 points).

3) Construction organization design:
a) Establish and organize the construction site and related facilities models, including formwork, scaffolding, machinery, etc., in compliance with planning and regulations (10 points).
b) Integrate architectural, structural, electromechanical, and site models (5 points).
c) Identify at least three different types of potential or existing safety and quality issues during construction using methods like clash detection, mechanical analysis, clearance checks, and virtual walkthroughs. Propose corrective measures leveraging BIM technology (10 points).

4) Construction management:
a) Using suitable BIM management software, link the schedule with the building and structural models (excluding mechanical, electrical, and site models) from the construction organization design. Perform 4D construction simulation and optimize the construction plan (10 points).
b) Based on the optimized design, prepare a construction operation manual or simulate the construction process for the structural phase, facilitating technical handover and guiding on-site work (10 points).
c) Calculate the quantities and total cost of structural engineering for this stage using provided material prices and dimensions (10 points).

5) Report file should include (but is not limited to):
a) Overview of construction organization;
b) Complete BIM model with renderings or animated walkthroughs of key areas;
c) Detailed design results;
d) Quality and safety analysis with corrective actions;
e) Construction process simulation and technical disclosure;
f) Bill of quantities and cost analysis;
g) Additional deliverables demonstrating proficiency in BIM technology for construction design and management.
The report should be clean, aesthetically presented, and clearly reflect the candidate’s understanding of BIM core technologies, mastery of BIM software, and ability to apply BIM for detailed design, organizational planning, and comprehensive management (30 points).

6. Any unspecified aspects are to be determined by the candidate.
