Designed by SpActrum, the Wuhan Haipei LeXiang Home interior project opened in mid-2019. As a pioneering concept in children’s amusement parks, Haipei aims to become a realm of imagination that connects the universe and the earth within children’s hearts—a place where they can run freely and lie back to dream.

In modern China, rapid urbanization has drastically limited children’s opportunities to connect with nature. Shopping malls have become the primary playgrounds, and cartoon characters dominate adults’ perceptions of childhood. SpActrum challenges this trend, seeing it as a capitalist construct rather than a true reflection of children’s needs. Instead of living in adult-created fantasy worlds, children deserve spaces that are free, inclusive, and authentic.

SpActrum’s design exploration drew inspiration from the cosmos. The universe moves at incredible speeds and energy, yet appears still to us. To express this paradox, the design returns to the sphere as a fundamental form. Planes move multidirectionally and evolve into walkable, climbable inclined surfaces that recall Earth’s terrain. The space is ultimately divided into two zones: the “universe,” shaped by evolving spheres, and the “mountain,” formed by stacked inclined planes.

SpActrum’s goal with this project is to offer children a chance to reconnect with nature. At the front of the site, children can run along hillsides and explore caves. Towards the back, spherical cutouts create enclosed spaces of varying sizes that serve as projection walls, intimate theaters, or inverted bowls—perfect venues for children’s parties and gatherings.

At Haipei Amusement Park, children are viewed as active explorers. The design minimizes concrete images and instead constructs geometric forms that metaphorically represent universal laws, encouraging children to discover the world through play. Rich spatial experiences awaken their instincts for physical movement and tactile interaction, fostering childhood memories that are shaped by exploration rather than commercialized characters.
